Alert Day: Excessive Heat and Storms
Milwaukee is facing a day of extreme weather, with high temperatures and severe storms on the horizon. An excessive heat warning has been issued for several counties, including Dodge, Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha.
Weather Details
High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with heat indices soaring into the low 100s. The excessive heat warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Dewpoints will be in the upper 70s, contributing to the intense heat.
Severe thunderstorms are possible later in the day, between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Winds will be the primary concern, with potential for damaging gusts and large hail.
Health and Safety Tips
The Milwaukee Health Department offers the following advice to stay safe during the heat:
- Stay Cool: Limit physical activity, seek air-conditioned spaces, and avoid leaving children or pets in parked cars. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Use cool baths or showers and wet towels to cool down.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, avoiding caffeinated and alcoholic beverages. Remind others to stay hydrated as well.
- Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Monitor those at higher risk of heat-related issues twice daily.
