CeeDee Lamb Signs Record-Breaking Contract, Becomes Second-Highest-Paid Non-QB in NFL History

FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has concluded his holdout by agreeing to a monumental four-year, $136 million contract, making him the second-highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. This new deal includes a $38 million signing bonus, the largest ever granted to a wide receiver, and $100 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

CeeDee Lamb's Landmark Deal

Lamb was initially set to play the 2024 season under the $17.99 million fifth-year option of his rookie deal and become a free agent afterward. However, the Cowboys secured his services through the 2028 season with this new contract. This agreement makes Lamb the highest-paid wide receiver in Cowboys history, surpassing the previous records set by Amari Cooper and Dez Bryant.

In 2020, Amari Cooper signed a five-year, $100 million deal with $40 million guaranteed, while Dez Bryant's 2015 deal was a five-year, $70 million contract with $45 million guaranteed. Lamb's new contract exceeds these figures significantly.

Comparison with Other Top Receivers

The new deal positions Lamb just behind the Minnesota Vikings' Justin Jefferson, who leads the market at $35 million per season. Other top wide receivers include the Philadelphia Eagles' A.J. Brown at $32 million per year, the Detroit Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown at $30.003 million, and the Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill at $30 million per season.

Impact on the Cowboys and Team Dynamics

Coach Mike McCarthy expressed enthusiasm about Lamb’s return, highlighting his impact both on and off the field. McCarthy praised Lamb's energy and playmaking ability, noting his absence from training camp and preseason games. The Cowboys will integrate Lamb into practices carefully, aiming to mitigate any risk of injury before their season opener against the Cleveland Browns on September 8.

Contract Negotiations and Future Outlook

While Lamb's contract situation is now resolved, other significant contract negotiations remain, including those for 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk, Trent Williams, Jets' Haason Reddick, and Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase. Lamb's new contract comes as the Cowboys look to finalize a long-term extension for quarterback Dak Prescott, whose contract expires after this season. The team aims to secure Prescott's future, though discussions have been ongoing and the franchise tag cannot be applied.

With Lamb's new deal in place, the Cowboys can focus on solidifying their roster and preparing for the upcoming season, potentially bolstering their performance and team cohesion.
