Oasis fans are buzzing with excitement as fresh rumors of a reunion gain momentum, fueled by cheeky social media posts from former frontman Liam Gallagher.
On Saturday evening (24 August), reports surfaced claiming that the legendary rock band is planning a full-scale reunion in 2025, with massive shows in Manchester and London. This news comes after a year of speculation, spurred by what seems to be a thaw in the long-standing feud between Liam and his older brother and ex-bandmate, Noel.
Just last week, fans were taken aback when Noel praised Liam during an interview with John Robb at Manchester’s Sifters Records. Reflecting on Liam’s performances on hits like "Slide Away," "Cigarettes and Alcohol," and "Rock ’N’ Roll Star," Noel said, "It’s the delivery or the tone of his voice and the attitude." He went on to compare Liam’s voice to "a shot of tequila," contrasting it with his own, which he likened to "half a Guinness." "Liam’s is 10 shots of tequila on a Friday night," Noel joked.
The Sunday Times now reports that an official announcement could come as early as this week, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Oasis’s debut album, Definitely Maybe. Fans have been eagerly discussing the rumors on social media, especially ahead of Liam’s headline performance at Reading Festival.
"This is what the UK needs to hear right now," one fan commented. "If true, what an immense, welcome, and needed comeback." Another fan added, "This is the first moment in 15 years when I actually think it’s gonna happen." Some fans are even planning drastic measures, with one joking, "If Oasis reunite, I will fly myself, my wife, and our baby across the globe to Manchester and spend all our savings."
Liam has been playfully responding to fans’ inquiries about the rumors. When asked directly if the reunion rumors were true, he responded, "Honest to me I’ve not heard a peep." And when another fan pressed for an announcement date, he quipped, "Next Friday."
During his Reading Festival performance on Sunday night, Liam continued to interact with fans, who expressed both excitement and anxiety over the potential reunion. "It’s you lot that are being silly buggers. I’m just trying to get to the other side as safe and sound as possible," he said in response to a fan who complained about the suspense. But when one skeptic criticized Heaton Park in Manchester as a "terrible venue for concerts," Liam retorted, "See you down the front you big fanny."
Adding to the speculation, Liam’s son Gene recently told The Times that his father is open to a reunion. "I get the feeling my dad wants it," Gene said. "Let’s hope it happens. It’s easier to speak about after a couple of pints." While acknowledging that it’s beyond his control, Gene expressed his own hopes for a reunion, despite the ongoing tensions between the Gallagher brothers.
Despite the public feuding, the 23-year-old Gene revealed that he remains close friends with Noel’s daughter, Anaïs. Although they’ve joked about staging an intervention, Gene believes the brothers are "too smart for that."
As rumors swirl, Noel, who once dismissed the idea of a reunion, has softened his stance slightly, joking last year that he’d consider it depending on "what everyone’s hair was looking like." He humorously added that a reunion would likely involve him, Liam, and "a load of fit f***ing birds."
The Independent has reached out to representatives for both Liam and Noel Gallagher for comment.
